National Seminar and Round Table Discussion on Teacher Education Programs: Higher Education Commission (HEC) & Government Policies Perspective

A national seminar to discuss the changing national and international scenario, new policies for teacher education and teacher recruitment being introduced by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, National and Provincial governments respectively was held on Tuesday July 23, 2019 at Institute of Education and Research (IER) University of the Punjab, Lahore. It is need of the hour to discuss the current status of teacher education and its future with the leadership of teacher education in public and private sector universities of Pakistan. The University of Lahore (UoL) and its Department of Education is one of the stake holders to participate in debate. Dr. Muhammad Hameed Nawaz, Associate Prof. Department of Education was invited to represent the University of Lahore. He expressed his views about teacher preparation, teacher quality and teacher employability for school improvement and uplifting students not only in academic achievement but holistically (academically, socially, emotionally, physically, esthetically, cognitively, and morally).

The following agenda items were discussed in detail:

  1. Provisional government teacher recruitment policy.
  2. Future of teacher education programs.
  3. Higher Education Commission four year (Hons.) Degree Programs and Teacher Education.
  4. ADE & BS programs in colleges
  5. Teacher Licensing
